Does it strike anyone else that in America’s favorite sport–not a
favorite anywhere else, to my knowledge–football (not soccer) players
take orders from the bench on each play. Even the quarterback rarely
decides what to do next. Even in pro ball. In my field we’d call that
infantilization. Or militarization? (Or both?) Lately we read that
